# Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Los Angeles County Through 11:15 AM PT

**What is happening:**

The National Weather Service in Oxnard has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for southeastern Los Angeles County, in effect through 11:15 AM PT (1:15 PM CT). At 10:19 AM PT, radar showed a severe storm sitting right over Whittier, barely moving — drifting northeast at just 5 mph. A slow storm like this can dump heavy rain over the same neighborhoods for a long time.

**Local impacts:**

The storm is producing 60-mph wind gusts and penny-size hail, and radar shows a brief, weak tornado is possible. Expect possible damage to roofs, siding and trees. Communities in the path include Whittier, Pico Rivera, El Monte, Hacienda Heights, Montebello, Baldwin Park, Santa Fe Springs, La Puente, Temple City and Irwindale. Torrential rain with this storm can bring flash flooding — water can rise fast on streets and in low-lying areas.

**What to do:**

- If you see a funnel cloud or hear a tornado siren, go to the lowest floor of a sturdy building and get into a small interior room, like a closet or bathroom.

- Stay indoors and away from windows until the storm passes.

- Never drive through flooded roads. Turn around, don't drown — it takes only a few inches of fast-moving water to sweep a car away.

- Bring in loose outdoor items that strong gusts could throw.
