Breaking news alert graphic for a tornado warning in Navajo County, Arizona.

Espanola, NM —

**What is happening:** The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for northwestern Los Alamos County, south-central Rio Arriba County, and northeastern Sandoval County, in effect until 6:30 PM Mountain time tonight. At 5:46 PM, radar tracked a severe thunderstorm near Fenton Lake State Park, about 16 miles southeast of Cuba, moving northeast at 40 mph.

**Local impacts:** Expect 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail. Hail damage to vehicles is expected, along with wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Towns in the path include Espanola, Youngsville, Abiquiu, Santa Clara Pueblo, Coyote, and Buena Vista. Small hail piling up on roads can make driving treacherous.

**What to do:**

- Get inside a well-built structure and stay away from windows.

- If you're driving, pull over safely and wait it out — slick, hail-covered roads are hazardous.

- Secure loose outdoor items before the wind arrives.
