# Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Hidalgo County Through 7:15 PM MDT

Hidalgo County, NM — A severe thunderstorm is bearing down on southeastern Hidalgo County Monday evening, and the National Weather Service in El Paso has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for the area through 7:15 PM MDT.

**What is happening:** At 6:25 PM MDT, radar picked up a severe thunderstorm near Alamo Hueco, moving northeast at 25 miles per hour. The warning covers southeastern Hidalgo County in southwestern New Mexico and runs until 7:15 PM MDT, which is 8:15 PM Central time. Alamo Hueco, Playas Valley and Hachita Valley are in the path.

**Local impacts:** The main threats are ping pong ball-size hail and wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour. Hail that size can injure anyone caught outside and dent cars and siding. Winds that strong can damage roofs, siding and trees.

**What to do:**

- Get inside a sturdy building right now — a house, a store, a school — and stay away from windows.

- Bring pets and children indoors and move patio furniture, grills and trash cans inside or tie them down.

- If you are driving near Playas Valley or Hachita, pull well off the road, away from trees and power lines, and wait out the worst of it.

- If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.
