Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Grant County Through 6:15 PM
Hurley, NM —
**What is happening:** The National Weather Service in El Paso has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for east-central Grant County in southwestern New Mexico, in effect until 6:15 PM Mountain time tonight. At 5:44 PM, radar showed a severe thunderstorm sitting right over Hurley, moving northeast at 30 mph.
**Local impacts:** Golf-ball-size hail and 70 mph wind gusts. People and animals caught outside could be hurt. Expect hail damage to roofs, siding, windows, and vehicles, plus considerable tree damage and damage to mobile homes and outbuildings. Communities in the path include Hurley, Bayard, San Lorenzo, Cobre, Sherman, and Mimbres. A Tornado Watch also remains in effect for southwestern New Mexico until 9:00 PM.
**What to do:**
- Move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.
- Stay away from windows — large hail can shatter glass.
- Keep an eye on the sky; a tornado watch means conditions are right for tornadoes.
