Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Grant and Hidalgo Counties Through 6:45 PM

**Lordsburg, N.M. —** A severe thunderstorm is moving through southwestern New Mexico this evening, and the National Weather Service has put parts of Grant and Hidalgo Counties under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning through 6:45 PM Central time.
**What is happening:**
The National Weather Service in El Paso issued the warning at 4:53 PM Mountain time for southern Grant County and central Hidalgo County. As of 4:52 PM, radar showed a severe thunderstorm about five miles northwest of Windmill, drifting east at 15 miles per hour. The communities of Playas and Windmill are in the storm's path.
**Local impacts:**
The storm is producing 60-mile-per-hour wind gusts and hail up to quarter size. Hail that size can dent vehicles, and those winds can tear at roofs, siding and trees.
**What to do:**
- Move inside to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.
- Stay away from windows until the storm passes.
- If you are driving, pull off the road and park clear of trees until the storm moves through.
