Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Glasscock, Midland, Reagan, and Upton Counties Through 5:30 PM

UPDATE — Wednesday, September 30, 5:05 PM CT: The National Weather Service in Midland has issued a new Severe Thunderstorm Warning through 5:30 PM CDT for southwestern Glasscock County, southeastern Midland County, northwestern Reagan County, and northeastern Upton County. At 4:59 PM the storm was 24 miles northeast of Crane, moving east, with 70 mph wind gusts and half-dollar-size hail. Move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.
Crane, TX — The National Weather Service in Midland/Odessa has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for southwestern Midland County, northeastern Crane County, and northwestern Upton County in western Texas. The warning is in effect until 5:00 PM CDT Wednesday.
What is happening:
At 4:28 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 12 miles northeast of Crane, moving east at 30 miles per hour. The storm is tracking across mainly rural areas of southwestern Midland, northeastern Crane, and northwestern Upton Counties.
Local impacts:
The storm is producing 60 mph wind gusts and hail up to quarter size, about an inch across. Forecasters say hail damage to vehicles is expected, and the gusty winds can damage roofs, siding, and trees.
What to do:
• Move inside to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.
• Stay away from windows — hail and flying debris can shatter glass.
• If you are driving, slow down, turn on your hazards, and pull well off the road until the storm passes.
• Secure loose outdoor items that the wind can toss around.
