Horizon City, Texas — The National Weather Service in El Paso has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for east central El Paso County in western Texas, in effect until 6:45 PM MDT.
What is happening:
At 6:15 PM MDT, radar tracked a severe thunderstorm over Horizon City, moving northeast at 20 miles per hour. The storm is packing wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour and quarter-size hail — stones about an inch across. The warning covers Far East El Paso, Horizon City, Sparks, Lake Way Estates, Agua Dulce, Dairyland, and Homestead Meadows.
Local impacts:
Hail damage to vehicles is expected. The gusty winds can tear at roofs and siding and bring down tree limbs across the warned area.
What to do:
- Get inside a sturdy building right away.
- Move to an interior room on the lowest floor, away from windows.
- Do not shelter under a highway overpass or wait it out in a car — find a solid structure.
- Stay put until the storm passes. More storms may develop behind this one.
