Severe Thunderstorm Warning for East-Central Arizona Through 7:00 AM CT

Breaking news alert for severe thunderstorm warning in Arizona.

Globe, AZ — A line of severe thunderstorms is moving across east-central Arizona this morning, and the National Weather Service in Phoenix has put a Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for parts of Gila, Maricopa, and Pinal counties until 7:00 AM CT.

What is happening:

As of 4:20 AM MST, radar showed severe thunderstorms along a line from 10 miles south of Tonto National Monument to 6 miles south of Top Of The World, tracking northeast at 50 miles per hour. Communities in the path include Globe, Superior, Miami, Claypool, and Top Of The World. The warning runs through 5:00 AM MST.

Local impacts:

These storms are packing 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail — big enough to dent cars and strip shingles. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Torrential rain is falling with the storms, which can quickly flood roads and low-lying areas.

What to do:

- Get inside a well-built structure and stay away from windows until the storms pass.

- Move vehicles under cover if you can — hail damage is likely.

- Never drive through flooded roadways. Turn around, don't drown.
