UPDATE — Wednesday, September 30, 4:00 PM CT: A severe thunderstorm warning now covers southeastern Ector, southwestern Midland, northern Crane and northwestern Upton counties in western Texas through 4:30 PM CT. The storm was 12 miles northwest of Crane, moving northeast at 20 mph, with 70 mph wind gusts and half-dollar-size hail. Remain alert for a possible tornado.

UPDATE — Wednesday, September 30, 3:38 PM CT: The Weather Service's 3:38 PM update continued the Severe Thunderstorm Warning for east central Ward and northern Crane counties through 4:00 PM. The storm — seven miles north of Grandfalls, moving northeast at 20 mph — is packing 70 mph wind gusts and ping-pong-ball-size hail, with considerable tree damage expected. A tornado is possible.

UPDATE — Wednesday, September 30, 3:10 PM CT: The Weather Service's 3:10 PM update keeps Crane and Ward counties under the Severe Thunderstorm Warning through 3:30 PM. The storm is now seven miles north of Grandfalls — about ten miles south of Monahans — still moving northeast at 20 mph with 60 mph gusts and quarter-size hail. Pecos County is no longer part of the warned area.

# Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Crane, Pecos and Ward Counties Through 3:30 PM

Monahans, Texas — The National Weather Service in Midland/Odessa has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for north central Pecos County, eastern Ward County and northwestern Crane County until 3:30 PM CDT Wednesday.

**What is happening:** A severe thunderstorm was located seven miles northwest of Grandfalls, about 14 miles south of Monahans, at 2:46 PM CDT. The storm is moving northeast at 20 mph. The warning covers Monahans, Thorntonville, Grandfalls and Royalty, along with Roy Hurd Memorial Airport and Monahans Sandhills State Park. Drivers should expect the worst of the storm on Interstate 20 between mile markers 77 and 87.

**Local impacts:** Wind gusts up to 60 mph and quarter-size hail. The Weather Service says hail damage to vehicles is expected, and the winds can damage roofs, siding and trees.

**What to do:**

- Move inside now — get to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.

- Stay away from windows during the storm.

- Move vehicles into a garage or under cover to protect them from hail.

- If you are on I-20 between mile markers 77 and 87, slow down and pull off the road if visibility drops.
