Coconino County, AZ — A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for parts of north central Arizona tonight as a powerful storm pushes north through the county.

What is happening: The National Weather Service in Flagstaff issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Coconino County, in effect until 11:45 PM CT (9:45 PM local). Radar tracked the storm over Willow Springs, about 8 miles northwest of Tuba City, moving north at 45 miles per hour. It is affecting Tuba City, Willow Springs, Bodaway-Gap and Moenave, including U.S. Highway 89 between mile markers 485 and 499.

Local impacts: The storm is capable of producing 60 mile-per-hour wind gusts and hail up to half-dollar size. Forecasters say hail damage to vehicles is expected, and the strong winds can damage roofs, siding and trees.

What to do:

- Get inside a well-built structure now and stay away from windows.

- Large hail can break glass and injure anyone caught outside.

- If you are driving on Highway 89, pull over clear of trees and power lines until the storm passes.

- Severe storms like this can spin up a tornado with little warning — stay alert.
