Breaking news alert graphic for severe thunderstorm warning.

**Coconino County, Ariz. —** The National Weather Service in Flagstaff has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Coconino and Yavapai Counties, in effect until 5:45 AM MST.

**What is happening:** At about 4:59 AM MST, NWS radar showed a severe thunderstorm about eight miles north of Perkinsville, roughly 21 miles north of Cottonwood, moving northeast at 40 mph. Communities in the storm's path include Williams, Red Lake, Parks, Bellemont, Garland Prairie, Camp Navajo, Bill Williams Mountain and Whitehorse Lake. Drivers on Interstate 40 through the area should be ready for rapidly changing conditions.

**Local impacts:** The storm is packing two-inch hail — big enough to dent cars and break windows — and could also bring destructive straight-line winds. Forecasters say this storm is capable of producing tornadoes as well. Hail and wind can damage roofs, siding, windows and vehicles.

**What to do:**

- If you are outside, get inside a well-built structure right away and stay away from windows.

- Move to an interior room, bathroom, closet or basement until the storm passes.

- If you are driving, pull off the road in a safe spot away from trees and power lines.
