# Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Coconino and Yavapai Counties Through 11:15 AM CDT

Sedona, AZ —

**What is happening:** The National Weather Service in Flagstaff has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Coconino County in north central Arizona and Yavapai County in west central Arizona, in effect through 9:15 AM MST (11:15 AM CDT). At 8:43 AM MST, a strong thunderstorm was located about 9 miles southwest of Fernow Cabin — roughly 11 miles northwest of Sedona — and was moving north at 45 miles per hour.

**Local impacts:** The main threat is hail up to half-dollar size, which can dent and damage vehicles. The storm's path covers Fernow Cabin, Camp Navajo, Honanki Heritage Site, Red Rock–Secret Mountain Wilderness, Sycamore Canyon Wilderness, Parsons Spring, Sycamore Point, Rogers Lake, and Sycamore Canyon. It also includes Interstate 40 between mile markers 180 and 183, and the Taylor Cabin Line Camp recreation area.

**What to do:**

- Move inside a well-built structure right away and stay away from windows.

- Bring vehicles under cover if you can — this storm can damage cars and trucks.

- Avoid the hiking trails and wilderness areas in the storm's path until it passes.

- If you are driving on I-40 near mile markers 180–183, watch for sudden heavy rain and hail.
