Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Cochise and Graham Counties Through 4:00 PM

Breaking weather alert graphic for a news outlet

Southeastern Arizona — A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for northwestern Cochise County and southwestern Graham County until 4:00 PM MST.

What is happening: The National Weather Service in Tucson says a severe thunderstorm was spotted on radar 24 miles northwest of Willcox at 3:04 PM, moving northeast at 25 miles per hour. The warning also covers Bonita, Fort Grant and Mount Graham, plus Route 266 between mile markers 113 and 126.

Local impacts: The storm is capable of 60-mile-per-hour wind gusts and quarter-size hail. Hail that size can damage vehicles, and the winds can tear at roofs, siding and trees.

What to do: Get inside a well-built structure now and stay away from windows. If you are driving on Route 266, pull over well off the road until the storm passes. Do not wait for the rain to start — the damaging winds can arrive ahead of it.
