Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Clark County Through Midnight

Breaking news alert for severe thunderstorm warning in Clark County, NV.

Clark County, NV — A severe thunderstorm warning covers northeastern Clark County in southern Nevada tonight, with a dangerous storm racing north toward communities along I-15.

What is happening: The National Weather Service in Las Vegas issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for northeastern Clark County, in effect until midnight CT (10:00 PM local). Radar showed the storm near Overton Beach, about 11 miles southeast of Overton, moving north at 50 miles per hour. It is bearing down on Mesquite, Overton, Moapa Town, Moapa Valley, Logandale, Bunkerville, the Valley of Fire and Echo Bay, including Interstate 15 between mile markers 88 and 120.

Local impacts: The storm can produce 60 mile-per-hour wind gusts and quarter-size hail. Hail damage to vehicles is expected, and wind damage to roofs, siding and trees is likely. Anyone on or near Lake Mead is also at risk — high winds can make the water deadly in a hurry.

What to do:

- Get inside a sturdy building now and stay away from windows.

- If you are on Lake Mead, get off the water immediately and move indoors.

- If you are driving on I-15, pull over away from trees and power lines until it passes.

- Keep an eye on the sky — severe storms can produce a tornado with little warning.
