Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Cibola and McKinley Counties Through 6:15 PM

A weather alert graphic for severe thunderstorms in New Mexico.

Milan, NM — A severe thunderstorm warning covers north central Cibola County and east central McKinley County in western New Mexico until 6:15 PM Mountain time.

**What is happening:** At 5:29 PM Mountain time, the National Weather Service in Albuquerque tracked a line of severe thunderstorms stretching from 20 miles north of San Mateo to 11 miles north of Milan, moving northeast at 20 mph.

**Local impacts:** These storms are producing golf ball-size hail and 60 mph wind gusts — a dangerous combination that can injure people and animals outdoors and damage roofs, siding and vehicles. Heavy rain from the storms can also send sudden, dangerous flows through arroyos, ditches and low-water crossings.

**What to do:**

- If you are outdoors, move inside a well-built structure now and stay away from windows.

- Never try to drive across a flooded arroyo or low-water crossing.

- Keep away from windows until the storms pass.
