Two strong storms are moving southeast at 10 mph, with ping-pong-ball-size hail and 60 mph wind gusts. Take cover in an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.

UPDATE — Sunday, September 27, 5:50 PM CT: The storm has strengthened — at 5:50 PM radar showed it about 17 miles southwest of Medicine Lake and 32 miles southeast of Gordon, moving southeast at 10 mph, with two-inch hail and 60 mph wind gusts. Round Lake, the Highway 61/Survey Valley Road intersection, and the Highway 61 crossing of the Snake River are in the path. The warning runs through 6:15 PM.

# Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Cherry County Through 6:15 PM

Cherry County, NE — A severe thunderstorm is pushing across west central Cherry County this evening, and the National Weather Service office in North Platte has placed the area under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning through 6:15 PM CDT.

## What is happening:

At 5:27 PM, radar showed a strong storm about 17 miles southwest of Medicine Lake and roughly 29 miles southeast of Gordon, drifting southeast at about 10 miles per hour. The warning covers west central Cherry County in north central Nebraska, including Round Lake, the intersection of Highway 61 and Survey Valley Road, and the Highway 61 crossing of the Snake River.

## Local impacts:

The storm is dropping golf-ball-size hail — stones about an inch and three-quarters across — and driving wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour. The Weather Service says people and animals caught outside can be injured, and the hail and wind can tear up roofs, siding, windows, and vehicles and snap tree limbs.

## What to do:

- Get inside now and move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.

- Stay away from windows until the storm passes.

- If you see hail damage or strong-wind damage, report it to local law enforcement so they can relay it to the Weather Service office in North Platte.
