UPDATE — Sunday, September 27, 10:18 AM CT: The National Weather Service in Aberdeen has updated this warning. At 10:18 AM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 10 miles north of Grey Goose, about 14 miles west of Onida, moving east at 15 mph with 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail. Hail damage to vehicles is expected; wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees is likely. The storm will be near Sully Lake around 10:45 AM CDT and Onida around 10:55 AM CDT. This warning now runs through 11:00 AM CDT.

UPDATE — Sunday, September 27, 10:07 AM CT: A new Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for central Sully County, South Dakota through 11:00 AM CDT. At 9:58 AM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Bush's Landing, about 19 miles west of Onida, moving east at 20 mph. This storm is capable of producing ping-pong-ball-size hail and 60 mph wind gusts. Seek shelter inside a well-built structure and stay away from windows. Torrential rain may cause flash flooding — never drive through flooded roadways.

UPDATE — Sunday, September 27, 9:39 AM CT: The 9:39 AM update tracks this severe thunderstorm near Bush's Landing, about 25 miles west of Onida, pushing east at 20 miles per hour. The storm is dropping golf ball size hail with 60 mph wind gusts, reaching the Little Bend Recreation Area around 9:40 AM and Bush's Landing by 9:50 AM.

Dewey, Stanley and Sully Counties, South Dakota — The National Weather Service in Aberdeen has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for parts of central and north-central South Dakota through 10:00 AM CDT today, Sunday, September 27.

What is happening:

A severe thunderstorm was spotted near Mission Ridge, about 30 miles northwest of Fort Pierre, at 9:13 AM CDT and is moving east at 30 miles per hour. The warning covers north-central Stanley County, northwestern Sully County, and southeastern Dewey County.

Local impacts:

This storm is packing 60-mile-per-hour wind gusts and quarter-size hail — that's hail about an inch across. Hail damage to vehicles is expected, and the winds can tear at roofs and siding.

What to do:

- Get inside a well-built structure and stay away from windows

- Bring vehicles under cover if you can — quarter-size hail can dent and crack
