# Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Central North Carolina Through 11:45 AM
Raleigh, North Carolina — A fast-moving line of severe thunderstorms is sweeping across central North Carolina this morning, and a Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for parts of six counties until 11:45 AM Eastern.
**What is happening:** The National Weather Service in Raleigh issued the warning at 11:06 AM Eastern. A line of severe thunderstorms stretched from south of Mebane to near Sanford and was racing east at 45 mph. Radar shows the storms producing 60 mph wind gusts — strong enough to cause real damage. A Tornado Watch remains in effect for the region until 5 PM.
**Local impacts:** Expect damage to roofs, siding and trees from the gust front. Communities in the warning include Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Chapel Hill, Sanford, Pittsboro, Garner, Carrboro, Fuquay-Varina and Angier, covering southern Orange County, northern Harnett County, Lee County, western Wake County, Chatham County and southern Durham County. Straight-line winds can knock down trees and power lines and damage mobile homes.
**What to do:**
- Get inside a sturdy building and stay there until the storm passes.
- Stay away from windows — wind-driven debris can be deadly.
- Bring loose outdoor items inside if you can do it safely before the winds arrive.
- Keep the Tornado Watch in mind — conditions can change fast this afternoon.
