Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Baylor, Foard, Knox and Wilbarger Counties Through 5:00 PM

Breaking news alert for severe thunderstorms in specific counties.

Baylor County, Texas — The National Weather Service in Norman has issued Severe Thunderstorm Warnings for parts of Baylor, Foard, Knox and Wilbarger Counties in northern Texas, in effect until 5:00 PM CT on Monday, November 2.

What is happening: Two severe thunderstorms are moving northeast across the area at about 30 mph. One storm was located near Vera, in southeastern Foard County, at 4:18 PM CT. A second storm was spotted 12 miles southeast of Thalia, in northwestern Baylor County, at 4:22 PM CT. Both storms are expected to keep tracking northeast through the warned counties into the early evening. A Tornado Watch remains in effect for the warned area, and forecasters warn that tornadoes can spin up quickly from severe thunderstorms like these.

Local impacts: Both storms are capable of producing 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail. Hail of that size can dent vehicles and damage roofs, siding and windows. Strong winds can tear at roofs and siding and bring down tree limbs. Places in the path include Vera, Grayback, and the southwestern and northern shores of Lake Kemp, along with mainly rural stretches of southeastern Foard, northeastern Knox, southwestern Wilbarger and northwestern Baylor Counties.

What to do:

- Move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building, away from windows.

- Stay indoors until the storm has passed and the warning expires.

- If you are driving, pull safely off the road and wait out the hail and wind.

- Keep an eye on further updates, since a tornado watch means conditions remain favorable for tornadoes.
