Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Apache and Navajo Counties Through 9:00 PM

Holbrook, AZ — A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Navajo County in north central Arizona and Apache County in northeastern Arizona through 9:00 PM MST.
**What is happening:** The National Weather Service in Flagstaff reports a severe thunderstorm sitting 7 miles northeast of Sun Valley — about 15 miles northeast of Holbrook — and pushing northeast at 40 mph.
**Local impacts:** Radar shows the storm is capable of 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail. Hail that size can dent cars and break windows, and the gusts can peel siding, tear roofing, and snap tree limbs. In the path: Sun Valley, Petrified Forest National Park — including the park headquarters and the National Wilderness Area — plus Interstate 40 between mile markers 298 and 316 and State Route 77 between mile markers 405 and 408.
**What to do:**
- Get inside a well-built structure now and stay away from windows.
- If you are driving on I-40 or Route 77, pull off and wait for the storm to pass — hail and gusty winds make travel dangerous.
- Secure loose outdoor items that the wind could turn into projectiles.
