What happened:

The quake hit at 6:02 PM Central Time on Thursday, November 5, 2026. Its center was about 96 kilometers (60 miles) north-northwest of Lae, Papua New Guinea's second-largest city, at a depth of about 98 kilometers (61 miles) below the surface.
