M4.6 Earthquake Strikes Near Tobelo, Indonesia

Tobelo, Indonesia — A magnitude 4.6 earthquake struck off the coast of northeastern Indonesia on Sunday morning, November 8, at 10:45 AM Central Time.
What happened: The quake hit about 117 kilometers northeast of Tobelo, Indonesia, at a depth of about 225 kilometers below the surface. That is a very deep earthquake. The U.S. Geological Survey reviewed the event and placed the magnitude at 4.6.
Impacts: No shaking reports have come in so far, and no damage has been reported. Because the quake was so deep, shaking at the surface was limited. There is no tsunami threat from this earthquake.
What to do: If you feel shaking, drop to the ground, take cover under a sturdy table or desk, and hold on until the shaking stops. Stay away from windows and heavy objects that could fall. After the shaking ends, check for hazards such as broken glass, damaged walls, and gas leaks before moving around. Be ready for aftershocks, which can follow a larger quake.
