Mazo Cruz, Peru — A magnitude 4.6 earthquake struck near Mazo Cruz in southern Peru on Friday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

What happened: The quake hit at 5:46 PM CT on Friday, October 30, centered about 33 kilometers northeast of Mazo Cruz. It struck deep underground, at a depth of about 195 kilometers, which often limits shaking at the surface. The USGS has reviewed the event, and no tsunami warning was issued.

What to do:

- Drop, cover, and hold on during shaking, and stay indoors until it stops.

- Check your surroundings for hazards such as fallen objects, cracked walls, or gas smells.

- Be ready for aftershocks, which can follow a larger quake.
