M4.5 Earthquake Strikes Central Philippines

Bantogon, Philippines — A magnitude 4.5 earthquake struck near the central Philippines early Friday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reports.
What happened:
The quake hit at 4:09 a.m. Central Time (5:09 p.m. local time in the Philippines), centered about 11 miles west-northwest of Bantogon in the province of Bohol. It was an extremely deep earthquake — its epicenter sat roughly 367 miles below the surface, which usually limits the shaking people feel at ground level. No tsunami warning was issued, and the USGS has received no reports of damage.
Impacts:
Because of the quake's extreme depth, little to no shaking was expected at the surface, and no "felt" reports had been filed as of Friday morning. Deep earthquakes like this one can be widely recorded by instruments without being noticed by people above.
What to do:
Know the basics anyway: if you feel shaking, drop, cover, and hold on until it stops.
Stay clear of windows, shelves, and anything that could fall.
Check for hazards afterward — broken glass, gas smells, or cracked walls.
Be ready for aftershocks; the ground can shift again in the hours that follow.
