Governor Declares Statewide State of Emergency for Arizona After Severe Storms and Flash Flooding

Breaking news alert about Arizona flooding from a media outlet

Phoenix, Arizona — Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs has declared a statewide state of emergency following a weekend of intense thunderstorms, high winds, and severe flash flooding across Arizona.

What is happening:

The declaration, announced Monday, November 2, covers communities statewide that were hit by the weekend storms. It immediately unlocks $200,000 in emergency funding for local communities and puts state resources behind response and recovery work.

Local impacts:

Repeated rounds of heavy rain sent rivers and washes surging, flooded roads and neighborhoods, forced evacuations in several areas, and left homes, roads, and public infrastructure damaged. Crews carried out rescues in flooded communities, including rooftop rescues near Sedona, and several rivers climbed past major flood stage.

What to do:

- Never drive through flooded roads or around barricades. Turn around and find another route.

- Stay away from rising creeks, washes, and drainage areas.

- If local officials order an evacuation, leave right away and follow their directions.

- Keep phones charged and watch for updates from state and local emergency officials.

The governor said the declaration makes sure local authorities have what they need to clear roads, repair infrastructure, and help displaced residents.
