**Yavapai County, Ariz. —** A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for Yavapai County in west-central Arizona through 8:45 AM MST.

**What is happening:** The National Weather Service in Flagstaff issued the warning at 5:48 AM MST after a gauge on the Aqua Fria River recorded a rapid three-foot rise from thunderstorms dumping heavy rain across the area. Between a quarter-inch and three-quarters of an inch of rain has already fallen, and another half-inch to an inch and a half is possible before the storms wind down. Flash flooding is happening now in some spots and could begin quickly anywhere in the warned area, including Rock Springs, the Black Canyon Campground, and Interstate 17 near mile marker 242.

**Local impacts:** Flash flooding is life-threatening here — fast-rising water in creeks and streams, normally dry washes, city streets, highways, and underpasses. Dirt roads can turn muddy and impassable in minutes, and paved roads and underpasses can flood where you least expect it.

**What to do:**

- Never drive through flooded roads — turn around and find another way. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles.

- Move to higher ground at the first sign of rising water, and keep away from creeks, washes, and drainage channels.

- Be extra careful near Interstate 17 and underpasses, where water can pool fast.

- Report flooding you see to local emergency services or law enforcement when it is safe to do so.
