UPDATE — Tuesday, September 29, 3:27 AM MST: The Granite Creek river gauge near Prescott has started to fall after a rapid 4-foot rise earlier tonight, but the National Weather Service says flash flooding is likely still ongoing.

Yavapai County, Arizona —

**What is happening:** The National Weather Service in Flagstaff has issued a flash flood warning for Yavapai County in west central Arizona, in effect through 4:45 AM MST Tuesday. At 1:52 AM MST, a river gauge on Granite Creek in Prescott reported a rapid four-foot rise as thunderstorms dumped heavy rain over the Granite Creek drainage. Flash flooding is underway or about to begin.

**Local impacts:** Between half an inch and three-quarters of an inch of rain has fallen recently, with another half inch to an inch and a half possible. Forecasters warn of flash flooding along Granite Creek and its tributaries, urban streets, and low-lying areas around Prescott.

**What to do:**

- Never drive through flooded roads — turn around, don't drown.

- Avoid low water crossings and underpasses.

- Keep weather alerts on while you sleep.

- If you live near Granite Creek, stay alert for rising water.
