Flash Flood Warning for Yavapai County Through 1:45 PM

Breaking news alert for flash flood warning in Yavapai County, Arizona.

Yavapai County, Arizona — The National Weather Service in Flagstaff has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Yavapai County in west central Arizona, in effect until 1:45 PM MST (2:45 PM CT) today, November 1.

What is happening:

Doppler radar showed heavy rain falling across the warned area, with between 1.5 and 2.5 inches of rain already measured. Flash flooding is happening now or is expected to start shortly. The warning covers communities including Bagdad, Congress, Yarnell, Wilhoit, Peeples Valley, Iron Springs, Kirkland, Skull Valley and Wagoner, along with stretches of Highway 93, State Route 96, State Route 71, State Route 89 and State Route 97.

Local impacts:

The Weather Service calls this life-threatening flash flooding. Fast-rising water can flood creeks and streams, normally dry washes, city streets, highways and underpasses, and low-water crossings can become dangerous in minutes.

What to do:

- Turn around, do not drown. Never drive through a flooded road or around a barricade.

- Move to higher ground right away if water starts rising near you.

- Stay away from creeks, washes and drainage channels during heavy rain.

- If you are caught in a vehicle in rising water, get out and climb to high ground if you can do so safely.
