Flash Flood Warning for Wichita County, Texas Through 3:45 AM

# Flash Flood Warning for Wichita County, Texas Through 3:45 AM

**Wichita Falls, Texas —** A line of thunderstorms is training heavy rain over eastern Wichita County early this morning, and the National Weather Service in Norman has issued a Flash Flood Warning for the area through 3:45 AM CDT.

**What is happening:** Doppler radar showed thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area just after midnight. Up to an inch of rain has already fallen, and rain is coming down at a rate of 2 to 3 inches per hour. Another 1 to 2 inches could fall before the morning hours. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

**Local impacts:** Small creeks and streams will rise fast, and urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses — plus other low-lying and poor-drainage spots — are at risk of flooding. Locations in the warning include Wichita Falls, Burkburnett, Iowa Park, Holliday, Sheppard Air Force Base, Pleasant Valley, and Cashion.

**What to do:**

- Never drive through flooded roads — turn around, don't drown.

- Most flood deaths happen in vehicles, so do not try to cross water covering the road.

- Be extra careful after dark, when it is much harder to spot flood dangers.

- If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.
