# Flash Flood Warning for Western Randall County Through 3:30 AM

Randall County, Texas — Flash flooding is threatening the western half of Randall County in the Texas Panhandle early this Saturday morning, and the National Weather Service in Amarillo is urging drivers to stay off flooded roads.

**What is happening:**

The National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Warning for western Randall County just after midnight, and it stays in effect through 3:30 AM Saturday. Doppler radar showed thunderstorms dropping heavy rain over the area — between half an inch and an inch and a half had already fallen, with rain coming down at up to an inch every half hour. Forecasters say as much as two more inches could fall in the warned area, and flash flooding is already underway or about to begin.

**Local impacts:**

Flooding can hit small creeks and streams, city streets, highways, and underpasses, along with other low spots and areas that drain poorly. Canyon, Umbarger, Mescalero Park, and Buffalo Lake are among the places in the path of the flooding.

**What to do:**

- Turn around and do not drive through flooded roads — most flood deaths happen in vehicles.

- Be extra careful at night, when it is much harder to see how deep the water is.

- Move to higher ground if water starts rising near your home or car.
