Flash Flood Warning for Western Iowa and Eastern Nebraska Through 2:15 AM
# Flash Flood Warning for Western Iowa and Eastern Nebraska Through 2:15 AM
Omaha, NE — Thunderstorms parked over the Missouri River corridor are unloading torrential rain tonight, and the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley has issued a Flash Flood Warning for parts of western Iowa and eastern Nebraska through 2:15 AM CDT.
## What is happening:
At 11:11 PM CDT, radar showed thunderstorms producing heavy rain across southern Harrison County, northwestern Pottawattamie County and southwestern Shelby County in Iowa, plus north-central Douglas County and southeastern Washington County in Nebraska. Between 2 and 4 inches of rain have already fallen, and rain is still coming down at 1.5 to 3 inches an hour, with another 1 to 3 inches possible. Flash flooding is underway or about to begin.
## Local impacts:
Small creeks and streams, city streets, highways, underpasses and low-lying neighborhoods are all at risk. Places in the path include Blair, Harlan, Missouri Valley, Logan, Woodbine, Underwood, Fort Calhoun and Neola, among others. Nighttime driving through the area is dangerous — flooded roads can look passable until a car is already in the water.
## What to do:
- Turn around, don't drown: do not attempt to cross flooded roads.
- If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.
- Avoid underpasses and low-lying routes after dark; water depth is nearly impossible to judge at night.
