Flash Flood Warning for West Central Pearl River County Through 10:45 PM
Pearl River County, Mississippi — The National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued a Flash Flood Warning for west central Pearl River County in southern Mississippi, in effect until 10:45 PM CDT Saturday.
What is happening: Thunderstorms are dropping heavy rain across the warned area. Doppler radar showed between 3 and 5 inches of rain have already fallen, with heavy rain still coming down. Another 1 to 3 inches of rain is possible before the storms clear out. Flash flooding is happening now or is expected to begin shortly.
Local impacts: Low-lying ground, streets and small waterways in west central Pearl River County can flood quickly under this kind of downpour. Water can rise fast in poor-drainage spots, and driving through it is deadly.
What to do:
- Never drive through a flooded road — turn around, don't drown. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles.
- Move to higher ground right away if water starts rising around you.
- Stay away from creeks and streams, which can rise suddenly in heavy rain.
- Keep clear of underpasses and low spots where water collects first.
