Flash Flood Warning for West-Central Iowa Through 7:15 AM
# Flash Flood Warning for West-Central Iowa Through 7:15 AM
UPDATE — Thursday, October 1, 4:06 AM CT: The overnight update holds the warning for Audubon, Calhoun, Carroll, Crawford, Greene and Guthrie counties through 7:15 AM. Between 2 and 5 inches of rain have fallen, with up to another half inch possible; flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
**Carroll, Iowa —** The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a Flash Flood Warning for portions of west-central Iowa through 7:15 AM Thursday.
## What is happening:
Thunderstorms producing heavy rain are moving across northern Audubon, southern Calhoun, Carroll, southeastern Crawford, Greene, and northern Guthrie counties. At 1:19 AM, gauges showed between 1 and 3 inches of rain had already fallen, with rain coming down at 1 to 2 inches per hour. More rain is expected through the morning.
## Local impacts:
Flash flooding is already happening or will begin shortly in the warned area. Low-lying spots, small creeks and streams, and city streets with poor drainage can flood quickly. Water may cover roads you normally drive without a second thought.
## What to do:
- Turn around, don't drown — never drive through flooded roads. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles.
- Be extra careful at night, when it is harder to see how deep water really is.
- If you live near a creek or low-water crossing, stay alert and move to higher ground if water starts rising.
