Southeastern Washington County, Utah — The National Weather Service has put southeastern Washington County under a Flash Flood Warning this evening, with dangerous floodwater already on the move in the Hildale area.

What is happening:

NWS Salt Lake City issued the warning at 5:50 PM MDT, and it runs through 8:45 PM MDT. Doppler radar picked up thunderstorms dropping heavy rain over Hildale and the Short Creek watershed — between half an inch and three-quarters of an inch has already fallen. Flash flooding is either happening now or about to start.

Local impacts:

This is a life-threatening flash flood situation. Expect rapidly rising water in normally dry washes, along with flooding across urban areas, streets, and underpasses in and around Hildale.

What to do:

- Never drive through a flooded road — turn around and find another way.

- Most flood deaths happen in vehicles, so treat every flooded crossing as a no-go.

- Stay aware of your surroundings and don't walk through moving water either.
