Flash Flood Warning for Washington County Through 4:00 PM MDT
Zion National Park, UT — Dangerous flash flooding is happening right now inside Zion Canyon, and the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has Washington County under a Flash Flood Warning through 4:00 PM MDT.
What is happening: At 2:49 PM MDT, park dispatch reported active flash flooding in Behunin Canyon and upper Emerald Pools, with more flooding developing on the east side of the canyon. Up to half an inch of rain has already fallen, and more thunderstorms carrying heavy rain remain possible through the evening.
Local impacts: Narrow canyons and washes are filling fast. This is a life-threatening flash flood — water in slot canyons can rise with almost no warning, trapping anyone inside.
What to do:
- If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.
- Never enter a canyon or wash when flooding is possible.
- Turn around, don't drown — do not try to cross flooded roads or streams.
