Flash Flood Warning for Washington County Through 3:15 PM

Washington County, Utah — A flash flood warning is in effect for the Forsyth burn scar in central Washington County until 3:15 PM MDT Sunday.
What is happening: The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City issued the warning at 12:18 PM MDT. Emergency management reported heavy rain falling over the Forsyth burn scar, with river gauges rising fast along the Santa Clara River. Between 1.25 and 2.25 inches of rain have already come down. Flash flooding is underway or about to begin. Burned ground cannot soak up rain the way healthy soil does, so water races downhill.
Local impacts: Life-threatening flash flooding of creeks, streams, and ditches across the Forsyth burn scar. Severe debris flows of mud, rock, and ash are expected, and roads and driveways can be washed away.
What to do:
- Climb to high ground immediately if you are near the burn scar or the Santa Clara River.
- If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.
- Never drive through floodwater — turn around, don't drown.
- Do not walk through moving water; six inches can knock you down.
