# Flash Flood Warning for Val Verde County Through 1:30 AM

**Del Rio, Texas —** A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for east-central Val Verde County in south-central Texas until 1:30 AM CDT Friday, issued by the National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio.

**What is happening:**

Late-night thunderstorms are parked over east-central Val Verde County and unloading heavy rain. At 10:27 PM, Doppler radar showed between 2 and 4 inches of rain already down across the warned area, with another 1 to 3 inches possible before the warning ends. The Weather Service says flash flooding is happening now or will begin shortly.

**Local impacts:**

Life-threatening flash flooding is expected in creeks and streams, along with flooding in urban areas, highways, streets, and low-water underpasses. Driving after dark makes it harder to spot water on the road.

**What to do:**

- Never drive through flooded roads — turn around, don't drown. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles.

- Be extra careful tonight: it is harder to recognize flooding after dark.

- Stay aware of your surroundings and keep clear of low crossings, creeks, and underpasses.
