Flash Flood Warning for the Desert Southwest Through 1:15 PM CT

# Flash Flood Warning for the Desert Southwest Through 1:15 PM CT
Las Vegas, Nevada — Life-threatening flash flooding is hitting the desert Southwest this morning, with warnings stretching from the Las Vegas metro across northwest Arizona into Southern California.
**What is happening:** Slow-moving thunderstorms have dropped heavy rain across the region. The National Weather Service reports 1.5 to 3 inches have already fallen over the Las Vegas area, with flash flooding ongoing. Separate warnings cover central and southwestern Mohave County in Arizona, the Sand Stone and Spring burn scars in Gila and Maricopa counties near Phoenix — where 0.5 to 1.5 inches have fallen — and parts of Inyo County, California, plus La Paz County, Arizona, and Imperial and Riverside counties in California. Warnings run through this afternoon, with the last expiring at 11:15 AM Mountain time.
**Local impacts:** Life-threatening flash flooding of washes, creeks, city streets, highways, and underpasses. Around the burn scars near Phoenix, severe debris flows are possible and roads and driveways may wash away. In the Las Vegas valley, flooding is hitting North Las Vegas, Summerlin, Spring Valley, and surrounding areas. In hilly terrain, low-water crossings are dangerous in heavy rain.
**What to do:**
- Turn around, don't drown — never drive on flooded roads. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles.
- If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.
- Do not try to cross flooded roads — find another route.
- Near burn scars, watch for debris flows and stay out of drainages.
