# Flash Flood Warning for Texas Hill Country Through 2 PM

**Kerrville, Texas —** The National Weather Service in Austin and San Antonio has issued a Flash Flood Warning for western Bandera County, southeastern Edwards County, western Gillespie County, all of Kerr County, and Real County in the Texas Hill Country, in effect through 2:00 PM CDT Thursday.

## What is happening:

Doppler radar at 7:55 AM CDT showed thunderstorms dropping heavy rain across the warned area. Up to 2 inches of rain had already fallen, with rain coming down at 1 to 4 inches per hour. Another 2 to 5 inches is possible before this passes. Flash flooding is happening now or will begin shortly.

Communities in the warning include Medina, Kerrville, Leakey, Vanderpool, Ingram, Hunt, Camp Wood, Harper, Mountain Home, Waltonia, Barksdale, Doss, and Tivydale, plus Lost Maples State Natural Area and the Kerr Wildlife Management Area.

## Local impacts:

- Life-threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses.

- Fast-rising water in low-water crossings and normally dry creek beds.

- Roads becoming impassable with little warning.

## What to do:

- Turn around, don't drown — never drive through flooded roads. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles.

- Know where you are in relation to streams, rivers, and creeks. They can turn deadly in heavy rain.

- Campers and hikers should stay away from streams and creeks.

- If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.
