Breaking news alert about a flash flood warning in Florida.

St. Lucie County, Florida — The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued a Flash Flood Warning for central St. Lucie County in east central Florida, in effect through 1:15 PM EST (12:15 PM CT) on Monday, November 2.

What is happening: Doppler radar shows thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 4 and 8 inches of rain have already fallen, and another 2 to 4 inches are possible. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. The warning covers Fort Pierce, White City, Fort Pierce South, Fort Pierce North, Saint Lucie West, Indian River Estates, Port Saint Lucie River Park, Saint Lucie Airport, Saint Lucie Village, Saint Lucie, Collins Park Estates, Carlton and Tradition Field.

Local impacts: Life-threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses is possible. Roads in low-lying areas can flood quickly, and water can rise fast in places that do not usually flood.

What to do:

- Turn around, do not drown. Never drive through flooded roads. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles.

- Move to higher ground now and act quickly to protect your life.

- Stay away from creeks, streams and underpasses, and do not walk through moving water.
