Flash Flood Warning for Southern Utah Through 11:15 AM

Kane and Washington Counties, Utah — The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a Flash Flood Warning for parts of southern Utah, in effect until 11:15 AM MDT.
What is happening: Doppler radar shows slow-moving thunderstorms dumping heavy rain over west-central Kane County and east-central Washington County. Between a quarter and half an inch of rain has already fallen in the warned area, and flash flooding is either happening now or about to begin.
Local impacts: The weather service calls this a life-threatening situation for low water crossings. Creeks and streams are rising, and flooding can hit urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses with little warning. Anyone near washes, slot canyons, or normally dry creek beds should treat rising water as an emergency.
What to do:
- Never drive through a flooded road — turn around and find another way. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles.
- If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.
- Keep children and pets away from flood channels and storm drains.
- Stay out of slot canyons and washes until the warning expires.
