Flash Flood Warning for Southeastern Washington County Through 12:45 PM
UPDATE — Thursday, October 22, 10:52 AM CT: A large flood wave is moving downstream through Hurricane after 1 to 2 inches of rain fell across the headwaters of Gould Wash — emergency management reports flash flooding is ongoing. The warning now runs through 12:45 PM CT.
Washington County, Utah —
**What is happening:**
The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a new Flash Flood Warning for southeastern Washington County through 12:45 PM CT. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen across the headwaters of Gould Wash, and a large flood wave is moving downstream through Hurricane. Flash flooding is ongoing right now.
**Local impacts:**
The weather service calls this life-threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses. Gould Wash through Hurricane is flooding, and Highway 59 between Hurricane and Apple Valley was already reported flooded earlier this morning.
**What to do:**
- Turn around, don't drown when you encounter flooded roads. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles.
- Never try to cross a flooded wash, street or underpass on foot or in a car — it only takes a few inches of fast-moving water to sweep you away.
- Stay alert for flooding even where it is not raining — washes can turn into raging currents in minutes from rain miles away.
