Flash Flood Warning for Southeastern Dona Ana County Through 11:00 PM MDT

Dona Ana County, NM —
What is happening:
The National Weather Service in El Paso/Santa Teresa has issued a Flash Flood Warning for southeastern Dona Ana County in south central New Mexico, in effect until 11:00 PM MDT. As of 7:53 PM MDT, Doppler radar showed thunderstorms dumping heavy rain over the warned area. Between half an inch and an inch of rain has already fallen, and another inch to inch and a half is possible. Flash flooding is happening now or is expected to begin very soon.
Local impacts:
Small creeks and streams in southeastern Dona Ana County could flood quickly as the heavy rain keeps coming. Roads and low-lying areas may see water rising fast with little warning.
What to do:
- If you run into a flooded road, turn around — do not try to drive through it.
- Most flood deaths happen in vehicles, so get to higher ground instead of driving through water.
- Stay away from creeks, streams, and arroyos while the warning is in effect.
- If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.
