Southeastern Brevard County, FL — A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for Southeastern Brevard County until 9:45 AM EST, with a Flash Flood Emergency in effect for West Melbourne and Palm Bay. The National Weather Service in Melbourne has warned of life-threatening flash flooding, with between 8 and 12 inches of rain already fallen and an additional 2 to 4 inches possible. This is a particularly dangerous situation — seek higher ground now if you are in a flood-prone area. Do not drive through flooded roads, as most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Turn around, don't drown. If you are in a low-lying area, move to higher ground immediately. Avoid walking or driving through flood waters, which can be deeper and faster-moving than they appear and may hide debris or downed power lines. Stay away from streams, drainage ditches, and low-water crossings. If you are trapped in a building, move to the highest floor and call for help. Never drive around barricades or through flooded roads. Monitor local weather alerts and be ready to act quickly as conditions can change rapidly. Stay safe and avoid unnecessary travel in the affected areas. Source: National Weather Service
