Flash Flood Warning for South Central Emery County Through 5:15 PM

# Flash Flood Warning for South Central Emery County Through 5:15 PM
**Emery County, Utah —** The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a Flash Flood Warning for south central Emery County in central Utah, in effect until 5:15 PM MDT this afternoon.
**What is happening:** At about 2:08 PM MDT, Doppler radar showed thunderstorms dumping heavy rain across the warned area — between a quarter-inch and three-quarters of an inch has already fallen, and flash flooding is either happening now or about to start. That means runoff in this desert canyon country can turn dry washes and slot canyons into dangerous currents in minutes.
**Local impacts:** This is life-threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, plus urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses. Locations in the flood path include Goblin Valley. Drivers should be ready for water on Interstate 70 between mile markers 124 and 149 and on Utah Route 24 between mile markers 127 and 156, and again near mile markers 159 to 160.
**What to do:**
- Turn around, don't drown — never drive through flooded roads. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles.
- Stay alert even where it's not raining. Water from distant storms can send a wall of water down a dry wash fast.
- Campers and hikers, keep clear of streams, washes and creek beds right now.
