# Flash Flood Warning for Shelby County, Iowa Through 3:30 AM
**Central Shelby County, Iowa —** The National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley has issued a Flash Flood Warning for central Shelby County in southwestern Iowa through 3:30 AM CDT Thursday.
**What is happening:** At 12:31 AM CDT, Doppler radar showed thunderstorms dropping heavy rain across central Shelby County. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have already fallen, with another 1 to 2 inches possible at rates up to 2 inches an hour. Flash flooding is happening now or will begin shortly.
**Local impacts:** Small creeks and streams, highways, streets and underpasses, and other low-lying and poor-drainage areas will flood. Earling, Irwin, Defiance, Kirkman, Jacksonville, Prairie Rose State Park and the Elk Horn Creek Recreation Area are in the warned area.
**What to do:**
- Turn around, don't drown — never drive through flooded roads. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles.
- Be extra cautious at night, when it is harder to see flood dangers.
- Move to higher ground if water is rising around you.
