Flash Flood Warning for Santa Barbara County Through 2:00 AM

A digital news alert for a flash flood warning in Santa Barbara County.

Santa Barbara, California — The National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard has kept a Flash Flood Warning in effect for parts of Santa Barbara County until 2:00 AM PDT early Thursday morning, as heavy showers and thunderstorms continue to move through the area.

What is happening: Doppler radar shows a line of heavy rain and thunderstorms pushing through the county overnight. Forecasters say flash flooding will likely keep going for at least the next several hours. Rock slides and mud slides are also a real risk, especially along mountain and foothill roadways.

Local impacts: Expect fast flooding of small creeks and streams, along with water pooling on urban streets, highways, underpasses, and any low-lying or poor-drainage spots. Slides are possible on hillside and canyon roads, so stay alert if you are traveling through them.

What to do:

- Turn around, don't drown — never drive on a flooded road. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles.

- Be aware of your surroundings; water can rise fast in hilly ground and in town.

- Give mountain and foothill roads extra caution tonight — mud and rock slides are likely.

- If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.
