Flash Flood Warning for Sandoval County Through 7:00 PM MDT
Jemez Springs, NM —
What is happening: The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Flash Flood Warning for central Sandoval County in north central New Mexico, in effect until 7:00 PM MDT. At 4:57 PM MDT, Doppler radar showed thunderstorms dropping heavy rain along State Road 4 between Jemez Pueblo, Jemez Springs, and La Cueva, at rates of a half inch to an inch an hour. Flash flooding is happening now or about to begin.
Local impacts: Expect flash flooding of small creeks and streams, low-lying roads, and urban spots around the Jemez corridor. Water can rise fast in narrow canyons and along the highway.
What to do:
- If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.
- Never drive through flooded roads — turn around, don't drown. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles, and fast-moving water only a few inches deep can sweep a car away.
- Do not cross flooded bridges or low-water crossings.
