Flash Flood Warning for Sandoval County Through 12:30 AM MDT

UPDATE — Thursday, October 22, 10:18 PM CT: Radar at 9:18 PM MDT shows thunderstorms still dumping heavy rain over Sandoval County — between half an inch and 2 inches has fallen, with up to another three-quarters of an inch possible. Flash flooding is ongoing or about to begin around Jemez Springs, Jemez Pueblo, Canon, Ponderosa, Fenton Lake State Park, and Jemez State Monument.
Sandoval County, New Mexico — The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Flash Flood Warning for central Sandoval County until 12:30 AM MDT.
## What is happening:
At 6:30 PM MDT, Doppler radar showed thunderstorms dropping heavy rain over the warned area. Up to an inch and three-quarters of rain has already fallen, with as much as three-quarters of an inch more possible. Flash flooding is happening now or will begin shortly in central Sandoval County.
## Local impacts:
Small creeks and streams, city streets, highways, underpasses, and low-lying spots with poor drainage are all at risk of flooding. The danger is worse after dark, when flooded roads are harder to spot.
## What to do:
- Turn around, don't drown. Never drive through flooded roads — most flood deaths happen in vehicles.
- Be extra careful at night, when it is harder to recognize flood danger.
- If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.
- In hills and mountains, avoid low-water crossings, which can turn deadly fast in heavy rain.
