Flash Flood Warning for Sandoval County Through 11:15 PM

Cuba, NM —
**What is happening:** The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Flash Flood Warning for central Sandoval County, in effect until 11:15 PM Mountain time tonight. At 5:12 PM, Doppler radar showed thunderstorms dumping heavy rain over the area. Up to an inch and a half of rain has already fallen, and another inch is possible. Flash flooding is happening or about to start.
**Local impacts:** Small creeks and streams are rising fast. Expect flooding on highways, streets, and underpasses, plus poor-drainage and low-lying spots going under. Cuba and the surrounding area are in the warning, including Highway 550 between mile markers 32 and 73. In hill country, low-water crossings can turn deadly in minutes.
**What to do:**
- Turn around, don't drown. Never drive through flooded roads.
- Most flood deaths happen in vehicles — find an alternate route.
- Do not try to walk across flowing water either.
- Move to higher ground now if water is rising near you.
